As a Realtor, I am inspired by the impact of homeownership and have made it a priority to be a part of the solution in ensuring homeownership is accessible for as many people as possible. My passion began when I purchased and renovated my first home – a 100-year-old house – and I experienced firsthand the transformative power that owning a home can have on individuals and communities.
Through my work in real estate, I strive to help others achieve their dreams of homeownership by advocating for accessible housing options for all. Today, I am thrilled to share my feature in The American Genius that highlights my personal journey and newfound calling in affordable housing. If not us, then who? Reading the piece, written by NAR President Bob Goldberg, made me reflect on how far I’ve come to shed light on this crucial issue.
I can still remember walking into that 100-year-old house for the first time. That moment echoed my parents’ experience as Jamaican immigrants and first-time homeowners. The sense of accomplishment and pride from owning my own home was life-changing.
This transformation has fueled my passion for helping others achieve their homeownership goals. As I’ve gained experience, it has become my mission to make affordable homes and missing middle homes accessible to everyone—particularly those who may have believed it was unattainable.
My advocacy for affordable housing led me to work with organizations like NAR, ANDP, ARA, HDDC, HouseATL and more, whose recognition of my efforts brings much-needed awareness to this critical issue in today’s economy.
Looking back at where I started fills me with gratitude—it’s been worth every moment spent advocating for change, empowering others with knowledge about affordable housing options, and witnessing the transformations upon achieving their dreams of homeownership.
I am honored by this feature and wish to thank Bob Goldberg, The National Association of REALTORS® and The American Genius for eloquently sharing my story. My journey is far from over; I remain dedicated to making a difference by focusing on the development of affordable housing.
