Refuel Your Hustle: Why Self-Care Isn’t a Luxury for Entrepreneurs

By: Karen G. Hatcher, CPM®

“I honor my need for self-care, knowing that when I am full, I can overflow with love and energy for others.”

Ever feel so drained you can’t even pour from your own cup? As an entrepreneur, pouring into others is essential, but neglecting your own well-being can lead to burnout. Just like putting on your oxygen mask first before assisting others, prioritizing self-care is crucial for long-term success.

Striking a balance between selflessness and self-care is akin to learning a new language or instrument – it requires practice, patience, and perseverance. Join me as I share my journey and inspire you to #LiveSovereign!

My husband is an inspiration to me. He demonstrates how prioritizing ‘me-time’ in my daily schedule is essential.  As an only child, he has a natural inclination towards ensuring his personal needs are met.

His gift sparked a realization: I needed to find my own ‘oxygen mask. This lesson truly clicked over the holidays when I saw a shiny new bike under the tree – a thoughtful gift from him. It wasn’t just a present but a symbol of his understanding. He saw my struggle to carve out time for myself, my longing for simple pleasures that nourish my soul. He heard my (perhaps unintentional) rants about wanting family bike rides as a way to combine exercise and outdoor time.

With each pedal stroke, I felt more than just exercise – it was a journey from self-neglect to self-preservation.” Though muscles ache in this invigorating routine, echoes of childhood joy resurface, fueled by gratitude. This isn’t just movement, it’s a space to savor every breath, admire fleeting moments, and embrace timelessness, choosing health and happiness as the true motivation.

My bike rides are reminding me that carving out time for myself shouldn’t be an afterthought but rather an integral part of my routine. This is especially important for my entrepreneurs!

Successful entrepreneurs know that taking care of themselves isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. Just like I wouldn’t be able to fully serve my clients if I wasn’t at my best, I can’t truly care for my family if I’m stretching myself too thin.

A sharp mind in real estate needs rest! By carving out time for meditation, I’ve noticed a boost in focus and the ability to spot opportunities I might have missed before.

So, when I carve out time for myself, it’s not an indulgence, it’s an investment in my clients, my family, and ultimately, my success.
